THE WAR OF DESPAIR

Today I feel a cold chill in the air

Which touches each paw of my skin and every hair

Where’s peace gone or has that prolonged interlude come to close?

Who is now to trust, who are our friends who are our foes

What of elections, of democratic governance of one man one vote

Peacemakers threatened, politicians rejected, all in the same boat

Democracy discarded with civilisation freedom and hope

War beckons, prepare the weapons, will the troops be able to cope

But that’s not right, it’s against the rules, it really isn’t fair,

All cries extinguished as we step into that long dark tunnel of fear and despair
